Welcome to my newsletter!

This is a newsletter about tattoos, creativity, being a young artist, dissuading notions of perfectionism, and more!

I hope that any similarly young, self employed, fringe, or part time creatives reading this can relate to my own struggles with keeping up an artistic practice amongst other life stuff.

My hope is that the form of a newsletter provides a more genuine line of communication with people who’d like to keep up with my work (tattoos and other stuff), see what else I’m up to/thinking about, read my amateur writing, and tune in as I try to bolster my art practice through active research and absorption. I still struggle to call myself a tattoo artist, so writing this newsletter is also way for me to get over feeling like I don’t deserve to be an artist, and as a way to accept growth, accept expansion, and allow deeper connections to people and my own work as I slowly move away from Instagram as a primary platform.

By subscribing to this newsletter you are keeping me accountable to continue to make shit even when I don’t feel like it, so thank you! <3

about me

Hi! My name is Matéa and I’m a self taught hand poke tattoo artist living and working in Brooklyn and Ithaca, NY. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and recently graduated from Cornell University’s fine art program. I began tattooing friends for fun out of my dorm room, and now a little over four years later, tattooing is (basically) my full time job. I co-own and operate Show Pony Studio, a private tattoo and artist studio that will also function as a space for emerging artists to show and sell their work, in downtown Ithaca, NY.
