My hope is that the form of a newsletter provides a more genuine line of communication with people who’d like to keep up with my work, read my amateur writing, and tune in as I try to bolster my art practice through active research and absorption.

I want to use this newsletter as a tool to accept personal growth and expansion, to dissuade perfectionism, and as a way to share more intentionally.

about me

My name is Matéa and I’m a self taught hand poke tattoo artist living and working in Brooklyn and Ithaca, NY! I’ve found that the tattooing can bring about tender, vulnerable, and decisive moments of exchange between people. I fall in love over and over again with the slow and devotional process of the hand poked tattoo, and I’m so grateful to participate in this craft. I co-own and operate Show Pony Studio, a private tattoo and artist studio that doubles as a space for emerging artists to show and sell their work, in downtown Ithaca, NY. I’m also a resident at Thistle, a private studio in Bushwick.

When not tattooing, drawing, or thinking about fossils, you can find me moonlighting as #71 Joni Bitchell, skating for Ithaca Roller Derby’s SufferJets and New York City’s Gotham Roller Derby :)
