Hi and welcome to my very first newsletter :-) !
My hope is that the form of a newsletter provides a more genuine line of communication with people who’d like to keep up with and support my work, see what else I’m up to/thinking about, read my amateur writing, and tune in as I try to bolster my art practice through active research and absorption. I still struggle to call myself an “artist,” so writing this newsletter is also way for me to get over feeling like I don’t deserve to make art for a living, to move away from perfectionism, and as a way to accept growth, expansion, and allow deeper connections to people and my own work as I slowly transition away from Instagram as a primary sharing platform. By subscribing to this newsletter you are single handedly keeping me motivated to make work, and more of it, even when I don’t feel like it!
So thank you <3
I’d also, of course, love for this to be a space where I can share thoughts and resources on tattoos. I want my work to be accessible, for people to feel confident about getting tattooed, and to feel empowered, as I do, through this specific medium. Becoming someone who practices hand poke tattoos has fundamentally influenced my views on healing processes, bodily acceptance, change, presence, communication, and on art in general. It is my one true love and I’m so excited to share more on these topics and invite you into my little orbit.
Some more things I’m excited to share with you via newsletter include…
Early access to flash!
Sketchbook drawings
Show Pony Studio updates!
Playlists
What I’m paying attention to, noticing, etc.
Photos
Ephemera
Lists
Silly, sweet nothings
So for starters, here are some things I’d like to share with you <3
A short playlist of songs that have kept me company the past few months
This poem I came across while brainstorming studio names, all about being in awe of dappled things (hence, the name of this newsletter… for now).
Addendum: thank you Mama nature for all things speckled, plotted, and pieced <3
Show Pony Studio progress !!
It’s been a pipe dream of mine to run a tattoo studio/multifunctional art space/idk what else for a while now, but in no way did I think it’d be possible for another couple years… But then my landlord started being weird and sorta threatening towards my tattoo practice being held out of my apartment (even though they knew I had been tattooing out of there), so I suddenly needed to find an alternative space ASAP. I couldn’t afford another rent by myself, so I took to instagram to look for potential studio mates! SO grateful that Esmé responded, and that my mentor Julianne took interest in taking on this project, because now I share a gorgeous studio with two amazing friends and artists.
The three of us have so many ideas for the space and are so excited for what the future holds in this little studio downtown. We hope that Show Pony can exist as an accessible space for emerging artists to show and sell their work, where we can one day host workshops and other events, and (my biggest priority) as a safe, inviting space to give my clients tattoos <3
In the meantime, you can follow Show Pony Studio on instagram to stay tuned for announcements about our upcoming studio launch! (date is not confirmed, but between you and me, we’re aiming for September 22…!)
